Mother and Child Shelter
From January 2018, the Mother and Child Shelter project has been launched in SOS Children’s Village Kotayk. It provides temporary shelter for homeless mothers with minor children. Within the frameworks of this project, shelter was provided to 9 families with 15 children.
Inclusion of families in the project is done by the multidisciplinary team and is based on the assessment, after which family development plan is elaborated for each family. Based on the family development plan various forms of support are offered to the families, particularly food, hygienic packages, seasonal clothing, medication and medical support, psychological support, necessary means for child care, baby food, legal support, vocational trainings etc.
Within the framework of the project, close cooperation was established with local authorities, state social services on the local and regional levels, as well as local NGOs and international organizations working both in Yerevan and Kotayk region.
During stay in the Shelter social pedagogues, social worker and psychologist of the project constantly work with young mothers with the aim of improving their parental skills in order to help them to understand and properly address the needs of their children.
While implementing this project we try to make families self-sustainable by means of encouraging young mothers to participate in various vocational trainings in order to acquire a new profession or improve the skills they already have. These activities will assist them to become more competitive in the labor market and find a job.
